A dedicated teacher and schoolmaster he also became known as an outstanding school librarian following his appointment to Cranbrook. He was largely responsible for the merging of the LA's School Library Section with the independent School LA in 1947 and edited The school librarian from then until 1958. He published a number of books, pamphlets and bibliographies covering recommended books, including reference books and books on general librarianship and was responsible for the chapter on school libraries in YW from 1939 until the end of the series in 1950.
